A little AK help?

I came across a couple of AKs that I may try to pick up. One is a Bulgarian NIB, milled receiver, black synthetic with Dragunov style stock. I think it would be about $550 out the door. THe other is a lightly used MAK-90, blond wood stock, with stamped receiver of course. Don't know how much I could get that one for. Is the Bulgarian a good price? What is a fair price for the Chinese? The only AKs I've had any experience with are the WASRs. Anyone have any personal feedback on these? I've read up on both on a couple of websites, but would like some real world feedback. Thanks for any opinions...

Edit: It was probably obvious from this forum, but I probably should have also mentioned that these will definitely be SHTF guns. Reliability, durability, functionality therefore are of the utmost importance.

The milled Bulgarian is priced about right.

If the MAK90 is an original it should be made by Norinco with all matching part numbers. It will have some importer stamps on it also. These are some of the best AK variants available. They are well made and have the double hook trigger which makes the trigger action very smooth and doesn't have "trigger slap" like many of the European versions do. Value is probably $400-450 as many people avoid them due to the butt ugly stock. However you can remove the stock and modify it with a dremel tool to make it much more comfortable to hold. There are also good synthetic stocks available for about $60. You must maintain a thumbhole design to keep it legal.

I think a milled one is always better than a stamped one...

I'd rather have the Bulgarian one if I had my choice, but either one would be a good weapon to have....

I love the AKs... You can never have to many stocked up...

I have an Egyptian Maddi thats Milled and and Norinko thats stamped and both have developed the ""Trigger Slap"" but both are still dead on accurate out to a 100yards (don't have a range and further than that to test) and both will still blaze several hundred rounds very quickly with no jamming or misfiring...

I'd second this. Milled rifles are heavier, of course, but in my experience they seem to be slightly more accurate (their receivers won't "flex" at all). YMMV, though...
